The avalanche barrier project application for low impact approval, was approved by the Community Development Director.  The public was invited to comment nearly a year after the CDD approval.  The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission has no authority to take any further action.  There was one other commenter opposed and SPSW representative Tom Farkas spoke for 10′ spacing.  Legal counsel said there was nothing the Commission could do.  It is a done deal.
However,  it may be worth our effort to bring this to the attention of the Summit County Council to see if they can have the barrier spacing increased to 10′ as recommended by wildlife biologist Dr. Patricia Cramer.
These avalanche barriers will hinder wildlife movement and grazing patterns.
